A strong Post-Impressionist oil on canvas painting by André Roubaud depicting the Sainte-Victoire Mountain in France, executed in wonderful colors and gestural brush strokes. With magnificent details, this painting is a wonderful example of Roubaud’s work, showing vigor, enthusiasm, and a personality all of its own, achieving this look through the use of vivid colors and thick texture. Roubaud is quick to capture his excitement onto the canvas with the use of vibrant colors like bright yellow, green, red and blue. Drawing the viewer’s eyes into the hues on this piece which exudes an expressive use of shape and form of the Sainte-Victoire Mountain, which has been recognized as a Grand Site de France since 2004, also a dear subject of the painter Cézanne portraying this French’s natural heritage. Also with the use of a palette knife, Roubaud is able to move the thick paint around his canvas, therefore creating a strong texture, giving the painting such a depth, that as a viewer, it would feel as if you can almost walk into the scene portrayed.
