Cesar A. Villacres was known for his impressionistic street scenes depicting France. This painting is a tremendously vivid and alive street scene from Paris in the Early 20th Century of a horse with carriage in the rain with a figure holding an umbrella. The tree-lined street with buildings, and the beautiful architecture from the city is rendered with breathtaking details. The use of thick paint is noted, with quick brushwork and precise attention to detail. An absolutely great work of the times, capturing an ever so fleeting moment from over a century ago. This piece is signed lower left by the artist and it comes housed in a beautiful aged gold tone Newcomb-Macklin frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
