Mark English was an illustrator and was mostly known for his portraits of famous personalities for the National Park Service as well as designing thirteen stamps for the US Postal Service. He attended the Art Center College in Los Angeles in 1960. His work has appeared in magazines such as Good Housekeeping, The Ladies' Home Journal, McCall's, Redbook, The Saturday Evening Post, Sports Illustrated, and Time. This painting is a very rich celebration of texture and depth. It can be noted that the artist was fond of using the pallet knife, and in this painting, we can see great executions of this especially used with in the abundance of trees depicted. The brilliant contrasts are highlighted to great depth, as we can almost feel that this painting has a sculptural effect. This piece is truly inviting with beautiful details, as the "Hideaway" of a home is portrayed whimsically and gracefully with a small garden. The painting is signed lower right and comes displayed in a rustic gold tone wood frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
