EURO STREETS
Gieler, Jon Davenport & Aiiroh - April 1 to April 15, 2021
Lilac Gallery New York is pleased to present “Euro Streets” a group exhibition of works by European artists Gieler, Jon Davenport & Aiiroh. An urban collection of street art displaying pieces that are alive, bold, and inspired by the streets. Running from April 1 to April 15, 2021.
Gieler, a street artist from the Netherlands creates his body of work by replicating the captivating beauty of pop icons with his own style. His collage works are always being provided with posters he collects from walls out of the streets; he has developed a technique of ”Sustainable art" which gives a living and edgy character to his paintings. He also uses other old materials, like damaged brushes, blunt stanleyknives or other older and sometimes broken tools.
Jon Davenport, originally from London, creates his colorful collage composition portraits of a Pin-up models from the 1950s, or icons such as Marilyn Monroe, or Audrey Hepburn. Davenport explores the process of deconstructing iconic imagery from the past and present starting out with photos of his paint-stained studio floor and collages in articles/advertising from an array of vintage magazines, collected over the years; plus any other interesting items captured on his travels.
Aiiroh is a French pop/street artist born in Narbonne in 1987. At a young age, he started as a graffiti artist in train stations in several cities. "I take great inspiration from the street art movement which has a great poetic dimension for me. I sometimes spend whole nights wandering to find and snatch the poster that I like. I think I add a touch of optimism and color and do not like to politicize my work, but now more than ever, my artistic practice of “affichiste” finds an echo to the exhibition of 1961 of Hains which moved me a lot, "France in shreds.”
All the artist of this group show all has something in common, they are originally from Europe, love to collect items from the streets, and use Décollage in their daily practice.
