An impressionistic depiction of a Saint-Cloud factory porcelain vase ca. 1695–1710 with a burst of flowers exploding with color and bold marks. Alfaro bridges the Baroque cultural movement onto his canvases with precision, juxtaposing a romanticized drama that entices the viewer with powerful storytelling. The Saint-Cloud vase was originally inspired by Chinese porcelain making, both in its form and blue-and-white color scheme, the vase is painted in a manner that combines Renaissance grotesque elements based on etchings by Jacques Androuet du Cerceau (ca. 1510/20–1585/6) with the contemporary designs by Jean Berain (1637–1711). Alfaro perfectly unites the history of these important ceramics combining elements of a contemporary hand which offers a completely fresh vision in these works. The way the flowers are scrapped from side to side tells a story of movement and passion, history is neither lost nor ignored, and it is presented with rejuvenation as the flowers reflect life and new opportunities. This piece is signed lower right and titled on the back, it comes ready to be displayed on wide-edge gallery wrap canvas and hanging wire on verso.
